HOT TAKE · Heat Protection Authority
Privacy policy
Last updated: July 2026
1. Controller
Tobias Mattern, Bänschstr. 37, 10247 Berlin, Germany, email: tobias@no-ac.eu. No data protection officer has been appointed; the legal requirements (Art. 37 GDPR, § 38 BDSG) do not apply.
2. The most important part first
Neither this website nor the HOT TAKE app tracks you, shows ads, requires an account or shares data for advertising. The website is a static informational page with no cookies, trackers, analytics or external fonts. The core game works offline; only features you explicitly enable, such as Game Center and optional product analytics, require a connection.
3. Server log files (website)
When you visit this site, the hosting provider technically processes log data (IP address, time, requested resource, user agent) to deliver the page and ensure operational security (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log data is deleted after 7 days at the latest and is not combined with other data sources.
4. Weather feature of the website
The temperature display on the website only becomes active when you start it yourself ("Verify jurisdiction"). Only then does your browser ask for permission to use your location. If you consent, your coordinates are rounded to two decimal places (accuracy roughly 1 km) in your browser and sent directly from your device to the Norwegian weather service Meteorologisk institutt (MET Norway), Oslo, Norway (api.met.no). MET Norway technically also receives your IP address. Norway is part of the EEA, so the European level of data protection applies. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); simply not using the feature means no transmission takes place. The website stores neither your location nor the result. Weather data: MET Norway, licensed CC BY 4.0.
5. Local storage in the browser
The website remembers two things in your browser's local storage: your actively chosen language and whether you dismissed the (satirical) notice banner. Both are technically required for the service you requested (§ 25(2)(2) of the German TDDDG), never leave your device and can be deleted at any time via your browser settings. The banner tells the truth backwards: no cookies are actually set.
6. The iOS app HOT TAKE
This policy also covers the iPhone app, because the privacy information in the App Store points here.
Local game data. High score, progress, unlocks, settings and language choice are stored only locally on your device (app settings/UserDefaults) and are not transmitted by HOT TAKE. Depending on your iOS settings, Apple may manage this data in a device backup.
Local notifications (optional). The daily assignment reminder is scheduled exclusively on your iPhone. You can disable it at any time in HOT TAKE or in iOS Settings. The app does not collect location data.
Game Center (optional). If you use the optional leaderboard, the Game Center service is operated by Apple; your score is transmitted to Apple together with your Game Center identity. We neither receive nor store this data.
Purchases. The one-time full version (€3.99) is handled through Apple's StoreKit. Payment and purchase data are processed by Apple; we receive no payment data. The unlock status is derived solely from the verified Apple purchase receipt (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Optional product analytics. HOT TAKE activates TelemetryDeck only if you explicitly consent during the introduction or later in Settings. It transmits a randomly generated pseudonymous installation identifier, basic technical information such as app and operating-system versions, and only coarse gameplay events: onboarding start and completion, level start and outcome, bucketed attempt count and play duration, daily challenge start and completion, paywall view, purchase start and confirmed purchase, and a request to show the rating dialog. It does not transmit your name, email address, location, Game Center identity, score, level seed, exact play duration, price, payment data, transaction ID or free-form text. TelemetryDeck is not initialized before you consent. You may withdraw consent at any time in Settings for future processing. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
The recipient is TelemetryDeck GmbH, Von-der-Tann-Str. 54, 86159 Augsburg, Germany. Processing takes place on infrastructure in the European Union; according to the provider, IP addresses are not stored. See the TelemetryDeck privacy policy for more information.
No tracking. The app contains no advertising or advertising identifier (no IDFA) and does not track you across apps or websites.
7. Contact by email
If you email me (for example via the press contact), I process your email address and the content of your message in order to reply (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). The data is deleted once this purpose is fulfilled. It is not shared with third parties; there is no newsletter list.
8. Your rights
Under Art. 15-21 GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for us e.g. the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BlnBDI), Alt-Moabit 59-61, 10555 Berlin, Germany.
9. Changes
This policy is updated when the website or app changes. The version published here applies.
File note: section 2 is the shortest and finest section of this policy. The Authority is unusually proud of it.
